LocationThe nearby village of Avessac (approx. one mile) provides a convenient pickup for everyday items. It has a pharmacy, two bakers, small supermarket, post office, tabac, bar and creperie. In the centre is a historic church dating from the 11th century and just outside the village you will find a well-preserved lime kiln (four a chaux) dating from the 18th century in the grounds of the local chateau.
A short drive away (5 miles) is the beautiful town of Redon, which has been awarded the accolade of ‘Ville Fleurie’ (Flower Town) due to the abundance of flower troughs and baskets that adorn the town during the summer months. On the outskirts of the town you will find two hypermarkets and a retail shopping centre and every Monday there is a market with stalls galore selling local produce as well as household goods, clothes etc. Redon itself is an interesting and delightful historic town, which, due to its strategic position on the Vilaine River, has been an important port since ancient times. In the middle of the 19th century, the opening of the Nantes-Brest Canal gave Redon a new architectural style and made it the key to the navigable waterways of the west. These days, the delightful canal pathways and waterways provide endless exploration for pleasure boats and cyclists alike.
For those visitors feeling a little more adventurous, why not hop on the TGV, which stops at Redon station and head for Paris – less than 3 hours by train.
